These maps show the different population age centers in Omaha, Nebraska. For the most part, the centers for all age groups are a short distance from one another. Although these distances between centers are small, the variations  are consistent with migrations of populations between the center of the city and the suburbs.

The age group 0 to 17 is symbolized by the white dot.  This center is located approximately 1.03 miles from UNO and is closest to the center for 30 to 49 year olds. This proximity is appropriate due to the fact that most 0 to 17 year olds probably still live with their parents (the 30 to 49 year olds).

The age group 18 to 29 is symbolized by the light pink dot. This center is the second closest to UNO at a distance of 0.49 miles away. The location of this center is most likely due to more affordable housing and more renter occupied places in the, aging, eastern portions of the city.

The center for the age group 30 to 49 is symbolized by the dark pink dot, and is the 4th farthest west of all the centers calculated at 1.15 miles from UNO. This is most likely due to the ability of middle aged, working, families to afford newer homes in the suburbs of western Omaha.

The center for 50 to 64 year olds is symbolized by the red dot and is the second most western center of this study and is located 1.45 miles from UNO. This age group is commonly without children at home and a possible explanation for this western location is the ability (like 30 to 49 year olds) to afford new homes on the fringe of the city.

The age group 65 and up is symbolized by the burgundy dot and is the 3rd closest to UNO at 0.6 miles. This center’s location is appropriate because these people were probably buying homes in their 30’s and 40’s on Omaha’s fringe. Since that time, Omaha has enveloped these people with new developments on the city’s edge, causing the center of the ages 65+ to appear more east than the other age centers calculated.

These calculated centers are very close to the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Therefore, UNO is central to the age demographics of the city.
