Week 1: Boyd County seminar.
Basis of the grade: participation (50%) and a written 4-6 page report (50%). The time commitment is 3 hours a week, including lecture time.
Course organization: The first class we will provide some initial background lecture and then generate questions we would like answered, what information is needed to answer the question, and where we can get that information. The next 'lecture' would focus on lecture material concerning radioactivity and associated hazards, and working out what the outline of a report would look like. Subsequent sessions will be reporting on and working with what we have found. The final product will be a composite report on this case history, with each student responsible for a section. The emphasis will be on fact collecting, leaving it to the reader to form their own opinions based on those facts.
