Baraboo Quartzite

This is a cliff face outcrop of the Precambrian Baraboo quartzite exposed in central Wisconsin. The veiw is to the north. Features you should note include the following: cross beds, the enveloping bedding surfaces the overlying cross beds were deposited on, soft-sediment fold traces, and a planar joint.

Questions that might arise include the following. What triggered or caused the soft-sediment deformation? What direction were the currents that produced the cross beds moving?
