Using the Blue Skies CD-Rom which came with yout text go to the Atmospheric Basics section and go to Layers of the Atmosphere

Follow the instructions to familiarize yourself with the cd rom and then go the Omaha vertical profile. Be certain to note the date and time the readings were taken. Since the data change twice a day I would prefer that you do the assignment at one of the following times

Friday Jan 24 after 8 PM

Saturday Jan 25 between 10 AM and 6 PM

Sunday Jan 26 between 10 AM and 6 PM

Monday Jan 27 after 8 PM

Wednesday Jan 29 after 8 PM

Thurday Jan 30 after class

Saturday Feb 1 between 10 AM and 6 PM

Questions to Answer

1. Does the air temperature decrease or increase with altitude over Omaha?

2. Can you identify where the tropopause is on this sounding? What is the altitude?

3. Is there any level at which the temperatures are above 0 C? If so, what is (are) the levels (range)?

4. Where are the highest wind speeds found? What are they?
