Myanmar and Thailand

The Buddhist religion plays a major role in the day to day lives of people in the area. Ninety-Five percent of people in Thailand are Buddhist.

British Colonialism has affected Myanmar, while Thailand remained under its own control during colonial times.

Myanmar (Burma)

The population of Myanmar is centered around the Irawaddy river. One famous group of Myanmar is the Padaung, who are most known for their women who stretch their necks.

The Golden Triangle is the world’s major source of opium. Myanmar has been accused of having a relaxed drug policy because the Golden Triangle makes them alot of money.

The Shewdagon pagoda in Yangon (Rangoon) is a beautiful place of worship for people.

Thailand

Over the past 30 years manufacturing has become an emerging industry in Thailand. However the importance of agricultural items like rice is still heavily relied upon. This link tells how rice production got Thailand through a time of crisis.

Thai food is famous throughout the world as a delicious meal.
