The Reasons for the Seasons

Seasons-This site gives an explanation of why seasons occur.  It also explains the difference in seasons between the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere.

Equinox and Solstice-This site explains what happens during the spring and fall equinox and summer and winter solstices.  A map is also included to show the earth’s path around the sun and its location during the equinox and solstices.

Causes for Seasons and Climate

Hadley-Ferrell Model-This site shows a picture of the Hadley-Ferrell Model.  It also breaks down the three cells the make up the Hadley-Ferrell Model: Hadley Cell, Ferrell Cell, and Polar Cell, and gives a brief definition of them.

Land and Water-This site gives a brief description on land and water.  It also shows a map that contains ocean currents and the temperature of the currents as they flow.

The Angle of the Sun's Rays-This site tells how the angle of the sun’s rays can affect seasons based on the angle the rays hit the earth.  It also gives a picture to help describe the effect.

Koeppen Climate Classification System

Koeppen History-This site gives a little background on Wladimir Koeppen.

Brief Guide-This site gives a brief guide to the five climate zones.  Each zone tells about average temperatures, average amounts of rainfall, and crops suitable for growing in the region.

Map-This site shows a map with the five different climate zones around the world.  It is color coordinated and describes each areas climate.
