Searching the Web
There are a number of ways of finding resources on the web:
- Search Engines. These are resources that index web pages.
There are a number of these services and it takes time to learn
how to use them. Check out lists
of search engines and links to metacrawlers
and tips
on using search engines.
- Existing links pages. If you are lucky, you will find a pre-existing
list of links that someone has put together (and kept up-to-date).
It may even describe what you can find on each page.
- Books. Seems like a step backward but a visit to a library
or bookstore might help you find a list of web resources.
- Other people. Sit down with somebody and find out how they
search the web. Everybody seems to do it differently and you
can always learn something.
Most of all, be patient. Methods of finding material on the
web have not yet been perfected.
